stuff.
I’ve been busy this week and totally forgot to remind you about my Sunday Shutterbugs post with Edie on Sunday. This week our theme is INDIVIDUAL. I think Edie was thinking individual person and I kind of took a different route with my photo. Click here to go check out our photos (and share yours this weekend perhaps?) I love to look at other people’s take on our themes!
I also forgot to show you my latest design team project for Practical Scrappers. (I am thrilled to be chosen to stay on for another term with the new design team!) Our product to use this week is buttons. Here’s what I did:
I used the BoBunny “Love Bandit” line that I won a few months back from Rita’s blog. Thanks again Rita!
Here’s what the story says: (and just so ya know, I swear I don’t usually curse in my scrapbooks!)
Ya know how when you get married, how you save the top portion of your wedding cake and put it in the freezer to eat on your 1st anniversary? Well, here’s our cake, all wrapped up in aluminum foil….where it sat in our freezer in the basement…..for 9 years! Yes, you read that right. Apparently we’re dumbasses. I guess I didn’t realize that Ken had put it in the freezer downstairs, and we never use it so I never looked in it. Then in December 2009 our regular fridge died on us, and we started using the basement one. That’s when I noticed it. Not that it would have mattered…I can barely remember what happened last month and I was supposed to remember to eat that cake a whole year later on our anniversary? April 2010
You can see all the projects here (lots of talent here!) or submit one of your own until Saturday at 5 p.m.

My friend Sandie (who keeps me in business making cards for her) called me with a request for a quick birthday card. She told me her granddaughter is 8 and likes purple and is very fashion conscious and loves fashion. After pondering that, I came up with this!
You can’t really tell, but the paper I used to make the skirt is sparkly! And it nearly killed me, but there is no ribbon on this card. Sandie usually mails them to grandkids that live in other states and she doesn’t want to pay extra postage due to my bulky cards! I tried to use a very thin ribbon as a “belt” and tied it around the waist but it was still too bulky so I went with some purple rhinestones instead.
And that black background paper is actually from a catalog!
I used pop dot squares to make it stand up off the card a bit:
Here’s the inside:
(those are Pebbles Inc. rub-ons)
Filed under Projects | Comment (1)She is not alone.
I have an aunt who has been battling breast cancer for the last little while. I’d like to be able to say she’s been fighting it off for many years, but sadly that’s not the case. Her cancer has spread to various parts of her body, her spine being the most painful, and she is in excruciating pain all the time. It’s heartbreaking for me to say she has nearly come to the end of her journey, and her biggest wish right now is to get out of the hospital where she’s been for the last 3 weeks and die in the home that she loves.
I made this project for her so that she would have a visual reminder that she is not alone, that her family members are surrounding her with their love and prayers, that we are all here to support her and help her as best we can, but most importantly that God is with her, right beside her, waiting to carry her home.
So….I bought this print in an etsy shop called Jessica Swift. Jessica’s shop is full of beautiful simply said prints like this one. There are several others I’d like to get my hands on too. Like this one here and this one here and I would love to buy this one here for my little girl’s bedroom.
This is what it looked like before:
(the photo is Jessica’s from her etsy store)
I added a few details to it. I used cherry red Staz-On ink to ink up a chipboard heart from Maya Road, then I glossed over that with Glossy Accents and a bit of Stickles for sparkle. I stamped those wings using Heidi Swapp clear acrylic stamps (love these). I drew a line around the edges to kind of set it off. Then I mounted the print onto black cardstock and put it in a frame. That ribbon is from American Crafts.
Here’s the after shot:
(please ignore the window reflection in the frame!)
A closer look:
This was one of those times where I had to work with what I had. I really wanted to use red ribbon or white ribbon, but I felt that it really needed to be the wider type of ribbon, and this was all I had. I don’t have local stores here, so it was this or nothing. Hence, I went with this. I also thought about painting the frame itself red, but my aunt and uncle’s house is just lots of wood, paneled walls, wood picture frames, etc., so I knew this would go along better with everything already in their decor.
What do you think?
Which means that yesterday was Tuesday and Tuesday is when usually I would show you a sneak peek of my latest design team project and direct you over to the Practical Scrappers blog to check out the full view. But WHOOPS….I actually forgot to make a project for this week, and I cannot tell you how embarrassed I am about it! Luckily the 2 ladies who run Practical Scrappers weren’t too terribly mad at me. And they just informed me that they’re keeping me on the design team for another term! Yay! I have enjoyed coming up with projects every week for them.
I can show you what I did for them last week though. Our mission was to use bling or glitter, and I made a pool party page of my daughter’s birthday party at the YMCA last year. Yes, I actually used photos that weren’t even quite a year old yet! What a concept, huh? (Stacy Julian, I heart you and your philosophy!)
I used Stickles (my fav-o-rite thing ever!) to make the waves in my BoBunny paper sparkly.
I love American Crafts ribbons and I used them on this page in a different way than I normally do.
So if you want to, you could ignore the fact that I don’t have a project up this week and go check out the other talented Tuesday ladies pages and projects here.
Filed under design team stuff, Scrapbook Layouts | Comment (1)Recycled post card.
I bought a print from this little shop on etsy called Jessica Swift because I wanted to use it in a project for my aunt Teresa who is in a fierce battle with metastatic breast cancer right now. (I’ll show you that project later) When I got my package there was this funky thank you postcard in there. It was blank on the other side so I could have actually used it to mail to someone, but I figured I would recycle it and use it on a thank you card! I am VERY appreciative of my computer guru and wanted him to know that. He always comes to rescue this damsel in distress when there’s a computer emergency and has been doing so…..oh my goodness, I just realized I have been doing this job at home for 10 years. Jerry, you’ve been my computer guru for 10 years! Did you realize that?
Anyway, I made him this card and used the postcard on the front in the place of where you’d normally put patterned paper or something. I like how it turned out! Thanks for always coming to my rescue Jerry!

And yesterday Edie and I uploaded our photos to the Sunday Shutterbugs site. This week our theme is HORSE, and man did I have a HARD time finding one to take a photo of!
Here are a couple I took that didn’t make the final cut.
Isn’t he beautiful? He came over to the fence when we pulled off the side of the road as if to say hello to us.
And this one was pretty too but was pretty busy eating.
And he had a friend with him who was much too busy eating to be bothered with even looking up at me!
Okay, so for the BEST photo I took go on over to Shutterbugs here and check it out and see Edie’s photo (which I love as usual) and show us yours!

Here’s a baby boy card I made for a custom order. Lots of Stickles on this one, of course. I even added a touch of Stickles to the Fancy Pants heart straight pin. The little circle thingie is a Pebbles Inc sticker that I added a foam pop dot underneath to raise it up a bit. What do you think?

Remember that prize pack I won from Reminisce of their Easter line? I took a few minutes the night before Easter to use a bit of it and make a card for my daughter. Yes, I wait until the last minute. This is my life. UGH.
The colors in my photo aren’t that great because it was nighttime and my studio doesn’t have fantastic lighting. See that blue polka dotted ribbon? That is actually a BELT that Summer wore when she was younger. I have saved it for the last 3-4 years just waiting for an opportunity to use it!

I’m not a person who uses sketches a lot, but sometimes I see one and I love it and want to try it. This was one of those times. This was a sketch on Practical Scrappers last Friday. There are some fabulous cards from the design team with their take on the sketch that you can see here. I love to see how different people make completely different things with the same sketch!
Here’s the card I made with it for my friend Sandie who lost her dear son. I am heartbroken for you Sandie and had planned to come to services but at the last minute wasn’t able to.
