I believe I can FLY….

February 16th, 2010

This is the second project I came up with as a design team member over at Practical Scrappers.  Our mission was to use brads this week, which is something I rarely do anymore for some reason.  I based this layout on a sketch by Heidi over at CropStar.  She’s got a sketch contest going on.  Sketches are also something I don’t use a lot, so it was nice to get out of my “comfort zone” this week and this is what I came up with.

fly-layout-cr-small.jpg

I used my Martha Stewart butterfly punch to make a butterfly from an old music book page (painted with watered down acrylic paint and Stickles) to tie in with my FLY theme.

I used a Fancy Pants straight pin to coordinate with my butterfly and the whole FLY theme of my page.

You can’t tell it here, but those little Imaginisce mini brads are sparkly!

Title is done with my all time favorite American Crafts thickers (LAX).  I LOVE these!

Ballerina Card.

February 16th, 2010

I got a custom order to create a birthday card for a little girl who is “girly girl” and loves to dance tap and ballet and sing.  So I got busy and came up with this one.  I cut the little ballerina out of cardstock on the Pazzles and made her little tutu from some fringed tulle trim I got from Frog Feathers shop on etsy.  Love this stuff!

See the little musical note I attached to the ribbon knot?  Just a little something extra for effect.

And here’s a closeup of the little lady…

I hope she likes it!

Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2010.

February 15th, 2010

So a few months back (probably at least 4, which is terrible), I signed up to receive some free software in exchange for actually USING the software and writing a review about it, giving my opinion on it.  I received 5 different software titles, some of them photo editing (cause you know I like my photos), but only ONE of them would actually install and work for some reason.  I could understand getting a bad disk and having 1 or maybe even 2 of them not work, but nearly all of them?  Very strange.  I tried them in 3 different computers in my house and I can’t explain it.  They just wouldn’t install.

Anyway, the one that did work was Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2010, and I’ve been trying it out and finding some CUTE stuff in there.  I make my own cards a lot and I sell them to other people, but sometimes I just don’t have the time or want to take the time to hand make the card and I like to have a program to print one off real quick while I’m working at the same time.  I used to use American Greetings software and after probably 5-6 years I finally used up most of the card options in there, so it was nice to have a new one to try.

Here are some projects I made with Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2010.

I love how this certificate is from “the mother of neatness”.  Cracks me up.

I’m sending these cards to all of the wonderful people and companies who donated to my auction for Anita (to deliver her scrapbook to Canada) last March.  I thanked them all via e-mail, but I’ve really been wanting to send a personal note to each one.  It really meant a lot to me, all the strangers who came forward to help my cause.  It was wonderful.

I chose this one because I just liked the blues and greens and the simple image.

I also liked the sentiment inside

hallmark-card-outside.jpg

Since I worked on the Cards For Kids drive the other day, I got to looking for some kiddie cards in the program, and found this CUTE one.

hug-hallmark-card.JPG

But it’s really the inside sentiment that makes it so cute!

hug-hallmark-card-inside.JPG

(forgive my crappy blurry photo please!)

I was helping my step-granddaughter do her bridal shower invitations and she wanted some return address labels so I found this clip art to make them for her.

wedding-label.jpg

How CUTE are these?

There is a TON of clip art in this program, so I plan to use lots of it to print out and cut out and then use the images to make some more cards for kids.  Lots of the clip art images could also be printed, cut out, and used on our scrapbook pages, and I’m all for that because my scrapbooking budget is a big fat zero!

All in all, I like this Hallmark software a lot.  I found it to be a bit sluggish, but I really think it’s because my computer has no space left on it AT ALL and it just has no room to work properly, so I’m looking forward to installing it on the new computer and seeing how much better it works.  I didn’t have to pay for mine, but I think it would be well worth the cost because of the huge quantity of cards available that you won’t have to purchase.  Even if you’re the kind of person who buys cards at the dollar store (me), you’d still save money to use this and print them out at home because it will take you YEARS to use up all the cards in here.  ha ha

Lion birthday card.

February 14th, 2010

I had a friend order a custom birthday card for a 10-year-old girl.  Her details were that she liked the color blue and all animals.  I couldn’t find any animal “stuff” in my supplies that would go with blue very well, so I just went with the animal theme.  I had this lion diecut (who makes these? I can’t remember) and of course I had to Stickle him up a bit and make his mane sparkly and his muzzle and then he needed some pretty blue jewel eyes!

The checked ribbon is American Crafts and the animal printed ribbon is Karen Foster.

Here’s the inside:  (pardon the terrible photo!)

Stop and Smell The Tulips…

February 13th, 2010

I showed you a sneak peek before of my first design team project for Practical Scrappers, and today I’ll show you the whole layout since we’re onto another project over there.  Our assignment was to use a diecut machine, so I used the Pazzles and used the Paper Lace CD to cut the butterfly background paper.

stop-and-smell-the-tulips-small.jpg

What I love about the photo in the layout is this was during Summer’s “Elmo phase” when she absolutely adored him and she’s having him “smell” the tulip…..but it’s actually in his mouth, so it just cracks me up cause he’s eating it instead of smelling it.  Strikes me funny, I don’t know why.  ha ha

This was the first time I’ve ever used Heidi Swapp ghost letters.  I think I like them.  I used lime green Stickles to just outline the edges on these.

stop-and-smell-the-tulips-word-close.jpg

I can’t resist tying a ribbon (American Crafts) and sticking in some pins (those are from Fancy Pants).

stop-and-smell-the-tulips-pins-close.jpg

Of course, if you’ve been hanging around here any length of time you know by now that I can’t call it done until I’ve added some sort of bling, so I randomly put some jewels from Michaels and some Kaisercraft pearls onto some of the butterflies.

Goodbye, my friend.

February 6th, 2010

As I write this, it is Friday, February 5, 2010.

Anita left this world today at 10 a.m.  I received an e-mail from her friend Becky, who is the reason I met Anita in the first place.  I am beyond shocked.

I am in a state of disbelief.

I can’t stop crying.  Mostly because I just finished the little mini scrapbook for her children that I showed here about a week or so ago and it’s still sitting in the box on my desk waiting to be mailed.  The title “Remember” that I chose for the cover really strikes a chord with me now.  I thought of her for days while I made that little book.  Along with the journal that I made last October for Anita to write in.  Sitting here in the box.  There’s a card in the box that I wrote to Anita and a worry stone that I had bought her a long time ago.  And the 2-page layout made by Mandy Douglass from the Creating Keepsakes magazine article about us in February of last year.  I always felt that she should have it instead of me, so it was in the box also.  I regret that I never sent it.

Meeting her was a huge experience in my life, and so many people who read this blog (and who don’t) helped me to make the trip to Canada and make my dream to meet Anita and deliver her scrapbooks that we made for her a reality.  I have always been so grateful for each one of you, but now even more so.  You will never ever know what it meant to me, to see all of you strangers to me (and some not) come together and donate your money and bid on my auctions so that I could make the trip happen.  Making those scrapbooks for Anita and making that trip and meeting her in person and corresponding with her via e-mail and phone before and after that trip…..the whole experience……is something that changed me as a person inside.  It’s impossible to explain.  I will never ever forget all of you doing that.

I will never forget HER.  I am so saddened by the loss of her, I can’t even tell you.  There are no words.

Anita, you will always be a part of my story.

Thinking of you card.

February 5th, 2010

If you’ve been around a while, you may have heard me talk about Creek Bank Creations, my semi-local scrapbook store (45 minutes away). I really like the owner Julie and could “talk shop” with her all day long. She’s been going through a rough period lately and is at Mayo Clinic with her teenage son while he goes through surgery, so I made her this card and sent it to the place where they’re staying.

Of course you know I had to add my Stickles….

See the sparkles? I love me some sparkles….
In case you’re wondering, that’s my handwriting.

Fall bridal shower decorations.

February 4th, 2010

I photographed my step-granddaughter’s wedding back in November (and her engagement photos before that), and also took photos of the bridal shower done at my step-daughter’s home.  She incorporated the fall wedding theme into the shower also and I was thrilled to see that she decorated the tables with these:

(imagine it prettier BEFORE everyone left their cups sitting on it!)

Those are the engagement shots I took.  Very cool!  We had gone to a pumpkin patch a few days earlier that was at the end of its season and was giving away the rest of the pumpkins for FREE so my step-daughter used them in the decorating.

punkins stacked up in a lovely glass vase (I’d love to have one just like this–without the punkins of course)

My step-daughter made these centerpieces and they sat on the windowsills of the church windows during the wedding.
