Sisters, Ink.

February 28th, 2010

Have you all read the scrapbooking series of books by Rebeca Seitz?  They are fabulous!  My friend Thea got me hooked on them and I’ve read them all now except the most recent, but that’s only because I’m on a waiting list at the library.  I like them because they’re not your typical “romance novel” (they involve scrapbookers, of course!).  There’s a little romance and a little real life stuff too, which makes them interesting.  I usually start one and then can’t put it down until I finish it.

 Here they are:

Anyway, Rebeca has set up this cool website you can join just like the one in the book called Sisters, Ink.  You can go there and become a member and find other scrapbookers that live near you to see if you can make new friends and find people you can scrapbook with.  I think this is a great idea because I am the only person I know where I live who scrapbooks and there are no local scrapbook stores in my immediate area, so who knows…there could be a scrapbooker who lives 6 blocks away from me and I might not know it!  And I know that some of my most meaningful friendships are the ones I’ve made online with other scrapbookers and one of my closest friends is one who lives 3.5 hours away who I met online in one of my scrapbooker groups.

I’ve volunteered to help Rebeca spread the word and try to get new members to sign up.  There is a forum over there and a gallery where you can upload your projects too.  I think she’s planning some fun stuff like contests.  You can check it out for yourself here.

She’s All That…

and a bag of chips.  Where did that saying come from?  Here’s another project I did for my design team assignment last week for Practical Scrappers.  Our mission was to use flowers, so I broke out my Primas.  I love my Primas.

And here are some closeups:

shes-all-that-title-close.jpg

See that title?  It’s a rub-on from Memories Complete.  Now, I don’t know if it was because my package of rub-ons was VERY old or whether they’re all just crap, but I will never purchase these again.  My layout actually started on the other side of the paper but due to the crappy rub-on that I tried to use for my title the first time not rubbing on sufficiently and only a third of it ending up on the paper and making a huge mess, I had to flip my paper over and use the smoother side.  Yes, I know I could have used Undu or something similar to get the rub-on off of there if I really wanted to……but I didn’t really want to.  ha ha   Anyway, it was irritating.  And I will remember it the next time I buy rub-ons, ya know?

This tag is one of my favorite items in my studio.  I got it from an etsy shop called Deejan here.  She has got some of the THE cutest tags in her shop and I have others I have bought from her with cats and dogs on them.  I love her stuff!

It’s true; there is no one like her……

Look what I made!

February 26th, 2010

I have recently been working on redecorating my daughter’s room.  She’s almost 10 now (OMG–it freaks me out to even type that) and her room has been the same since I wallpapered/painted it right before she was born.  She was tired of it and wanted something cooler.  I stripped off all the wallpaper and painted her walls blue (her choice), got her a new loft bed and new bedding (blue and lime green) with curtains to match, repainted all the doors, etc.

She needed a lamp and I had a pink one in there, which now didn’t match because the room is blue and green, so I just painted that sucker blue.  I have no idea what happened to the shade, but it was pink and the thought of redoing it was too much for me so I got one at Walmart for $7 and thought it needed a little something so I opened up my “blue drawer” in my studio to see what I could find for a bit of oomph.  I discovered some blue flowers from Queen & Co that I’ve had for FOREVER and some blue buttons from Little Red Cottage (an etsy store I love).  I just took my mini glue dots and stuck them all onto my shade with those and here we have my finished project:

and a closer look:

Here’s a warning for anyone else thinking of using glue dots to add things to a lampshade:  Don’t.  Every damn one of these buttons and flowers has fallen off since then and after a few days of picking them up and sticking them back on I will be pulling out my Mighty Mendit or my super glue and reapplying them.  But that’s okay because it’s super cute!

On the road again….

February 25th, 2010

I’m headed to Louisville, Kentucky today to attend the Creating Keepsakes Convention.  I’ll be working in the Pazzles booth with my friend Klo, the Pazzles guru, so it’s actually all work and no play for me but I can’t wait to see Klo again and spend some time with her.  She lives in Nebraska and I live in Illinois, so we don’t get to hang out on a regular basis.  ha ha

Before I go, I’ll show you a recent card I made for my step-granddaughter’s birthday.

I love those felt butterflies from Heidi Swapp.  I want more in other colors!

All Star.

These photos are from a few years back, my daughter’s first year of playing softball.  It drives me crazy sometimes how all the sportsy sort of scrapbooking supplies are in green, black, yellow, brown colors.  Yuck.  I wanted my page to be GIRLY.  ha ha  So I pulled out this paper from The Paper Studio (from Hobby Lobby–one of my faves) and the title instantly popped into my head.

Closer up views:

I don’t know if you can see that well, but some of the stars I cut from extra paper and popped them up with foam squares so they are 3-D.

ONE.

February 23rd, 2010

I had a custom order request a few weeks ago for a birthday card for a friend’s 1-year-old granddaughter.  This is what I came up with:

one-card-small.jpg

That darling pink pom-pom trim I got at Creek Bank Creations and is my new favorite thing.  Unfortunately I only bought that one piece but I intend to go back and buy it in every color the first chance I get!  I love it!

I added another little butterfly to the inside.  For some reason, my photo looks weird and the inside is a different color than the paper shown on the outside photo above.  I assure you, I didn’t make this woman a card with this weird color paper inside.  It’s really all the same color.  I don’t know what happened.

You must know by now if you’ve been following my blog for any length of time that I of course added Stickles to the butterfly to make her sparkly….

It’s Monday….

February 22nd, 2010

Which means Edie and I posted our photos on the Sunday Shutterbugs blog yesterday.  This one was HARD for me and it was my idea!  Go here to see my photos along with Edie’s and maybe show us one of yours!

Our Wedding Day.

February 21st, 2010

I did this layout with a PageMap sketch from Becky Fleck when she was having a call for an upcoming book or something, and since it didn’t get picked I can show it to all of you now!  I decided to use some wedding photos that I took of my step-granddaughter’s wedding in November of last year.  The whole thing started because I got that nice circle title diecut from Pebbles, Inc. and wanted to do a wedding page but I had done my own wedding album years ago, so I used Zach and Danielle’s photos instead!  This is usually what happens to me.  There’s one element that becomes the basis of my scrapbook page, the starting point for me that makes me WANT to make the page.  It’s always different.  Sometimes it’s the photo, sometimes it’s something else, like in this case a title circle.

This is what I came up with using Becky’s sketch:

You can see below where I took some Stickles and traced the outlines of the flowers just to add to sparkle (cause you know I’m all about the sparkle!)

She had 2 little birds on her sketch and I figured since I was using photos that were all about L-O-V-E that I would put a heart between the little lovebirds.  I used more Stickles to outline the heart because it’s a “ghost” heart and is clear acrylic so not real noticeable.

The flowers were cut out of My Minds Eye paper (I think) and I added just a bit of Stickles to the middle of them, and here you can see where I used gorgeous fabric covered brads from K&Co.  These brads are really nice quality.

I’m going to put this in a frame (somebody sells 12×12 frames somewhere, right?) and give it to the bride and groom to hang in their new home.  Does anyone know where I can buy a frame for a 12×12 page?  It seems like I’ve seen them somewhere but can’t remember where.  Steer me in the right direction if you know!

Angel Baby.

February 19th, 2010

Once again, I used a rub on for the little onesie and rubbed it onto white cardstock, cut it out, and used a foam square to pop it off of the card.  The bow is a strip of tulle and it just might be my new favorite kind of “ribbon.”  I’ve got to figure out where to get more of this stuff.

Baby Boy card.

February 18th, 2010

I’ve been busy with lots of custom card requests lately so you’ll be seeing a lot of cards here this week instead of the usual scrapbook layouts or amusing (traumatizing) stories that my friends Connie and Sandie like to read here.

Here’s a card for a new baby boy:

baby-boy-card-small.jpg

The baby buggy is actually a rub on from the Dollar Tree (I think) or maybe Target?  Anyway, I rubbed it onto white cardstock, cut it out, and then used a foam square to pop it up off the card.

and here’s the inside:
