Retirement scrapbook.
I got hired to make a retirement album a few months ago for a lady at my husband’s workplace. The guys decided to get her retirement gifts with a beach theme, sunglasses, bathing suit, etc., just as a fun joke. So the album that I made for her was also beach themed to go along with that. I searched the internet for little funny retirement quotes and printed them off, cut them up and inked the edges to put throughout the book. And here it is….
( I love these photos because she laughed when she saw the zebra striped “something” and then she pulled part of it out of the box and is looking at it like “what the hell is this thing?” Totally cracks me up. It was some sort of bikini top with pants that my hubby found for her! ha ha )

So my daddy-o placed a custom order with me to make him a dozen thank you cards for some buddies that have helped him in the restoration of his “hot rod” car. He said he didn’t need them to be all manly or whatever, just to do what I usually do. So I did.
I cut all the “thanks” words with my lovely Pazzles machine. And I used my super duper Stickles to make some of them sparkly. I held back from using any PINK since they were for men! ha ha Here are half of them with close up shots of some of the details.
See those little 3-d dots above? Those are called Liquid Pearls (made by Ranger) and after seeing all the cool cards Jennifer McGuire is always making using these I was inspired to finally try them and I LOVE the way they look.

I’ve had the above Tinkering Ink paper for a long time and didn’t really like it for a scrapbook page, but as soon as I put it on this card and blinged it up with my Stickles I loved it!
(Thanks above inked up with Lime Green ink and Stickles)
(blingage with lime green and baby blue Stickles)

(those self-sticking blue gems are from EK Success and I’ve had them for YEARS)
(just a bit of Stickles to the center of each flower……) That flower garland/ribbon is from a DARLING etsy store called Frog Feathers. How cute is that name?

(those are Basic Grey gems in the flower middles that I got for a buck and they’ve my new FAVE thing!)

Here’s one in manly black and white. ha ha
See the puffy silver paint on the flower above the word thanks? That’s more of the Ranger Liquid Pearls (silver). I kind of like the effect. That pretty black and white daisy ribbon/garland thingie is from Frog Feathers again.

As you can see, I didn’t make ALL the “thanks” glittery. Those green buttons are also from Little Red Cottage on etsy. Doesn’t her name make you want to shop there? I love it.

More of those old EK Success jewels. I like the 3-D effect. I used 2 different colors on this one.

Just a quick little project to show today. I made this rose for my laptop lid out of vinyl. Cut it out on my Pazzles machine. It’s supposed to have a black background, but I didn’t realize that until AFTER I had stuck it on there and I wasn’t about to peel it back off and reattach. And I wish that I would have stuck it on there in such a way that it covered up the HP logo, but it is what it is (I quote my wonderful friend Jackie there)…. and so I’m enjoying it just like it is!

You’re not old……….Just wise.
This is a recent card I made. I’m posting it today because today is Cards For Heroes (.org) birthday and I want to celebrate with them. I always thought it was a good cause, but I feel even more strongly about helping out now that my nephew recently joined the military and may be one of those soldiers all too soon. Thanks to Cards For Heroes for all you do for our military men and women!
You can see up close the owl is sparkly and I outlined the clouds with sparkles (those Stickles that I love).
the owl’s sparkly wings…..and those eyeballs are OLD, seriously at LEAST 40-45 years old.
This is a chipboard tree branch from an old Creating Keepsakes kit of the month and I used the Stickles to outline the edges of the leaves and put a dot in the middle of the flowers.
Pretty clouds…….
You can find this card in my etsy shop for sale. I plan to make and send more to Cards For Heroes in the next few weeks. It’s hard because no glitter is allowed! Do you know how hard that is for me? But it’s bad for the troops so no glitter it is.
If you haven’t heard of Cards For Heroes, then go on over to their website and check it out. It’s pretty inspiring. People have made and donated over 186,000 cards to their organization, and in turn those cards have been sent to soldiers overseas so they can write home. They also accept handmade cards to send TO soldiers, which I plan to do soon also. If any of you reading this are cardmakers and want to contribute, feel free to contact me and send me your cards and I would be happy to combine them in a box with mine to send them to Cards For Heroes (I’m shipping end of September).

A few weeks ago my daughter spent the night with a friend. When it was time for me to go to bed that night, this is what I found IN my bed. That’s her American Girl doll, with my daughter’s pillow as her mattress and my daughter’s actual baby blanket we brought her home in from the hospital. My kid worked pretty hard to get that doll, and she loves her. She’s being treated very well, huh?
This is the part I love about scrapbooking. Little everyday moments like this that I will likely have forgotten a month from now if I don’t document it with a photo and write down my thoughts and feelings. (My memory is so terrible at almost 40 that I’m afraid I won’t know my own name by the time I hit retirement!) These are the kinds of moments that I like to fill my life with and remember later.
Good night Andrea! ![]()
There He Goes….
My nephew left for his service in the U.S. Army today. Off to boot camp. To a new life. To experience things so many of us will never experience. To come out the other side a different person. A better person. He’s leaving an 18-year-old boy and will come back as an adult. A man. It’s hard for me to believe. He was “my boy” back when he was my only nephew and I didn’t think I would have my own children. I only lived a few blocks from him when he was a young boy around 2-3 years old and I spent lots of time with him back then. So long ago. He’s had a hard life, and I am so PROUD of him and full of JOY for him that he has chosen a path (even though I’m scared) that will enrich his life and turn his life around and make him a better person. I am so PROUD that he was brave enough (even though he’s scared) to JUST DO IT, to go into the unknown because he knows that it will provide him with opportunities that he could never get here at home, that it will teach him things and it will change him and it will provide him with a better life. I can’t tell you how proud I am of this kid.
I drove 2 hours to Indianapolis to watch them swear him in and watch him leave on a bus for his basic training. It was hard and I didn’t want to watch him go, but I felt like it was something I needed to do and I knew that I would be his only family member there to support him. So I took my anti-anxiety medication and off I went……. and then off he went.
He had on a pretty brave face, and I didn’t want to upset him. I promised myself I wouldn’t cry until he was on that bus and my sunglasses were on so he couldn’t see me. I did okay until he hugged me goodbye and then I had to choke it down for a couple minutes until he got on the bus. Wow. It was hard. It’s funny how you can be happy and sad at the same time, isn’t it?
Now I’ve got to figure a way to attend his graduation from basic training in Georgia in just 9 weeks. Sounded like forever when he was leaving, but now that I have to find the money to get there it doesn’t seem like long at all!
