Blog Award.
Remember that cute altered book I told you about (and tried to show you?) a week or so ago from the blog Frogs N Butterflies? Well, while I was writing that (and she didn’t know it) she sent me a nice little blog award. Thanks Cheri! Oh, and I have to follow some rules.
1. The winner may put the logo onto their blog.
2. Put a link to the person who sent you the award.
3. Nominate 10 blogs.
4. Put links to their blogs.
5. Leave a message for the nominees.
And now I’m supposed to give it to 10 blogs I read that make me smile. I read some really awesome blogs, so go check them out.
1. Cathy Zielske. If you don’t know who she is, you’re obviously NOT a scrapbooker. Aside from being an awesome scrapbooker, she’s funny. I love funny people. I love people who make me laugh. And I love her blog because she makes me laugh every time I read it. http://cathyzielske.typepad.com/my_weblog/
2. Abby Key. I’ve never met her in person, but I love her dearly and consider her a good friend. She sees things that others don’t see. And she points them out to you. And she reminds me to look for things also. Love her. http://abbykey.blogspot.com/
3. Klo Oxford. She is so awesome and I dearly love her. She is funny as hell, and she’s a Pazzles machine genius. The woman can design anything! And the best part is that she’s so generous she shares files and does videos and shows you how to use your Pazzles too and answers questions for people and does it all out of the goodness of her heart. That makes me smile. http://www.scrappingklo.blogspot.com/
4. Jill Brush. She’s always making me smile for some reason. Her blog is full of funny stories she tell about disasters that have happened to her and she shows lots of paper projects she makes that are so pretty and she’s usually giving them away to someone else because she’s so nice! http://www.my-so-called-scrappy-life.blogspot.com/
5. Stacy Julian. Haven’t met her yet but it’s on my list of “things to do before I die.” She’s a great scrapbooker and teacher, but it’s her philosophy that I love. She makes me smile a lot when I read her blog because she makes me remember that life is wonderful and I have lots of things to be grateful for and that I SHOULD be smiling because life is good. http://stacysbigpicture.typepad.com/
6. Tara Whitney, photographer extraordinaire. Her photos are always so stunning and awesome, that you can’t help but smile. http://tarawhitney.com/justbeblogged/
7. Melody Ross. She’s the founder of Chatterbox a scrapbooking manfacturer company). I think she’s a phenomenal woman for what she’s been through and how she’s handled it and still encourages others to smile when reading her blog. When I want to remind myself that “it’s gonna be okay,” I go to her blog. http://melodyross.typepad.com/my_weblog/
8. Heather Armstrong, a.k.a. Dooce. She’s bold and in your face and (sometimes) offensive, but MAN she makes me laugh. As I said before, I like funny people. She takes hilarious photos of their dog, Chuck. They can sit anything on that dog’s nose or head and he will sit still as a stone while they take a photo. Food, dog treats, etc. It’s amazing! http://www.dooce.com/
9. Karen Russell. She makes me smile because she takes fabulous photos. Someday I’d like to be able to afford her photography class! She’s also a scrapbooking designer for many years, but it’s her photos that I love to see on her blog. http://karenrussell.typepad.com/my_lifejust_not_on_the_ro/page/2/
10. Ali Edwards. I’m always amazed by her creativity, but now she has a brand new baby girl at home. Baby girl photos make me smile. http://www.aliedwards.typepad.com/

My friend Thea made this cool graduation party invite, and since she’s too lazy to post it on her own blog I asked if I could show it on mine. It’s so cool because it’s a 3-part card.
Here’s the front.
Then instead of opening it you flip it over and here’s the back.
Then you open it by lifting the flap (what you just looked at) and here’s the inside.
Pretty neat, huh? It looks like it’s all one piece of paper. I don’t know how on earth she did it, but I think it’s pretty cool!

This is a card I made for my Gramps for his 80th birthday surprise party last weekend. He was totally NOT surprised because he got suspicious when Granny and my mom disappeared for a bit too long and turns out he’s a pretty good detective! So he wasn’t surprised that there was a party, but he WAS surprised at the people who showed up, very old friends and faraway family, so it was really nice. Anyway, (sorry Sandie) here’s some more butterflies! But not the same ones as all those other red, white, and black cards I made before. haha
I tried to be all musculine-ish with this one, but it’s hard for me. I had to add flowers (couldn’t stand it). My grandma really boosted by ego when she saw it and started telling me how talented I am and she can’t believe I’m not selling these. Um, I’m trying Granny!

Here’s another photo display board I was hired to make for graduation party last month. Note to self: NEVER try to cover something like this with fabric ever, ever, ever again! I got a trifold cardboard display board at Walmart and covered it with maroon curtains (school colors), and it was horrible! haha The graduation caps, stars, and words were all cut on my Pazzles machine.
Here’s a closeup of what I did with the Pazzles.
My husband and I took all the senior photos of her on this board, so I’m pretty pleased with how those turned out too!

Last one! My friend Sandie is getting tired of all the butterflies! haha But it’s because of this Creek Bank Creations June kit. My first time working with a kit, and once I opened it, I have left it sitting here on the counter in my studio and I can’t stand it, I want to use every single piece in it right now! I am planning a layout in my head still but I did want to show you one last card I made with it for Natalie’s graduation. I’m so grateful that she pulled through and managed to get out of the hospital in the nick of time to attend her graduation. That girl is my hero!
I was feeling pretty good about it until my 9-year-old daughter looked at it and told me those red jewels look like butterfly poop. Well, damn. I had planned on making it longer with a loop, but I ran out of jewels so that’s that. It’s done and it’s in the mail in spite of that! haha

My friend Abby wrote a blog post the other day that challenged us to SEE what we may not normally see in our busy everyday hurry-hurry-rush-rush life. Go read that here. This is one of the many reasons why I love this girl. She is always looking for the extraordinary in the ordinary and always reminding others to LOOK for it also.
So I am sharing here something that I saw that I would not otherwise have noticed if I weren’t paying attention. This is a tree at my home. It is next to my house and driveway and I park next to it every single day when my car is not parked in the garage. I don’t like the tree much (it’s a snowball tree) even when it’s blooming so don’t spend a lot of time looking at it, and it’s not even blooming right now. But I parked my car there next to it like always and looked into the branches for some reason and saw this:
Do you see what I see?
Filed under Life | Comment (0)Handmade thank you cards.
I’ve been using my paper scraps to make thank you cards for my aunt. Some of you may remember me talking about my cousin Natalie here, and my aunt has written hundreds of thank you cards because of all the good things people have done for them so I thought I’d provide her with some to use. On a side note, Natalie is doing better. She has finished her physical therapy, which is just unbelievable to me! They’ll be getting another CT scan of her lungs in July to see if all those holes she has in them are shrinking. It has already happened once. The holes have shrunk 50% and the doctors have no medical explanation for it at all. Isn’t that amazing?
(I added clear Stickles to the pink flower)
(the orange flower above has Stickles on it also)

Still have that Creek Bank Creations June kit lying around my studio and here’s another graduation card I made with it. This is the first time I’ve ever gotten a kit from a kit club and used it to make stuff. Can you feel my excitement? haha
I used American Crafts black cardstock (not from the kit) and Cherry Arte patterned paper. Those butterflies are cut out of a piece of Cherry Arte paper too.
See the jewel in the center of the flower?
See the Stickles glitter I added to the butterfly wings? (Have I mentioned I love this stuff?)
See my pretty flower straight pin and the gold trimming on my sheer black ribbon? These aren’t from the kit, but I sure wish I knew who makes that ribbon so I could get more of it.
Do you like?
To see other things I’ve made lately with this same kit, go to my blog post here and here . Next project with the kit is a scrapbook page I think. Stay tuned.

I still had the Cherry Arte stuff sitting out from the Creek Bank Creations June kit after making this previous card, and I saw it and wanted to play some more and needed cards for 3 high school graduations and this is one of the ones I came up with.
The first one is made with American Crafts black cardstock (not from the kit), Bazzill red dotted swiss cardstock from the kit , Cherry Arte rubons (flowers and butterflies) from the kit, the checkered ribbon is from the kit, and I used a red straight sewing pin in the knot (not from the kit) and my white gel pen that I love. In hindsight, it’s not very sparkly and I love sparkly so I may go back and at least add a tiny red rhinestone in the middle of the largest flower. Just because I can!
My signature move. Tie a ribbon in a knot and stick a straight pin through it.
Funny thing with this card is that I started out making it vertical. But my flower rubons were too tall, and I really wanted to use them so I turned the card horizontal!
Filed under Projects | Comment (0)Cool altered children’s book!
A new blogger friend of mind has the most awesome altered children’s book on her blog and you should go check it out. The inside pages were ruined so she used cereal boxes to make new inside pages (ya hear that Julie? That totally made me think of you! LOL). This thing is so beautiful. Here’s one of the pages for you:
Okay, never mind on that. I can’t save her photo to put it on here, it doesn’t save as a photo, it saves as a file and it won’t work. So just go on over to her blog here and look at all the photos. The name of her blog is Frogs and Butterflies. How cute is that?
