My uber creative friend Abby has a T-shirt on her blog that she made and it’s DARLING. Here’s a photo of it. This is just 1 reason why she’s “awesome” Abby, my friends.

Remember Anita? I talked about her initially on my blog here and then shared some of the scrapbook pages Jill made for her in this post.
Now I want to show you a few of the pages that my friend Erm from Nebraska made for Anita. Erm doesn’t have a blog so I’m going to share them here on mine.
I love all the intricate vines with the strawberries and the beautiful title. These were all cut out with the Pazzles machine. My friend Klo designed them and Erm (her mother-in-law) used the Pazzles to cut it all out.
I love this one because of what Erm did with the journaling where she added the charms to match the words. So clever! I’m totally stealing that idea from her.
Thanks for all your help Erm! I love the pages and think they’re fantastic!

My friend Dona said nice things about me on her blog, and I was so touched I wanted to share it with you. http://donascrap.blogspot.com/2008/09/pay-it-forward.html

This time they’re not made by me! I was in a card swap and there were some talented ladies involved. I included my “happy bird-day” card with a glittery bird that my daughter made. Anyway, aren’t these the cutest?
Filed under Scrapbooking, Projects | Comments (2)Bad Steak & Shake. Bad, bad Steak & Shake.
I love to read, and I read lots of crazy crap on the internet. Some true, some not. But this story about a deaf woman being treated so badly at Steak & Shake back in January just disgusted me. I’ll put the links here for you to read her story from her blog and then the follow-up stories of what happened afterward. It’s not necessarily the fact that they don’t have accommodations for deaf people….it’s the way the employee treated the woman (whether she can hear or not!) that pisses me off.
Here’s the initial story on her blog.
Here’s what she wrote the next day on her blog.
Then apparently her story got on the ABC news and Fox news. Perhaps some of you already saw it. I don’t watch the news, so I missed it at the time.
And another blog post she wrote in response to someone who suggested that she planned the entire thing.
And yet another blog post that is her response to a person who thinks SHE owes Steak & Shake the apology.
Here’s where she tells about her meeting with the Steak & Shake executives.
In May she writes on her blog that she still has not heard about any solution from Steak & Shake. After 4 months, I think that’s pretty bad.
Here she talks about her decision to finally file a lawsuit when she realizes Steak & Shake is going to do nothing. I had a feeling the whole time I was following this story that in the end they would do nothing, and I’m sad to see that I was right.
I feel bad, because it’s something I know nothing about. I can hear, everyone I know can hear, and I have always just taken that for granted. The next time I’m at a drive-thru window, you can bet I will think about Karen and be oh so grateful.

I just heard about their situation last week from Tara Whitney’s blog. I don’t watch the news or read the newspapers because it’s just too depressing, so I missed all the coverage about this husband and wife who were in a private plane crash and were burned very severely in the crash. The pilot died, the man was burned over 30% of his body, and the woman 80% of her body? Christian and Stephanie. There is a blog dedicated to them and their family’s fundraising efforts for them here (click on About Nie at the top to read their story). At any rate, the whole thing is just horrible. They have 4 children under the age of 6, who are now staying with the woman’s sister. She also has her own kids on top of taking care of her nieces and nephews, who I am sure are longing for their own momma and not really understanding where she is. I’ve been reading her blog. Frankly, I don’t know where she finds the strength.
I feel the need to do something even though I don’t know them. Lots of bloggers are hosting sales and auctions with the proceeds going to the Nielsons. So I found one that was accepting donations of scrapbook supplies, which is right up my alley! I have a scrapbook that I’m going to donate. The auction will be on September 23 at One More Moore.

I wrote about Anita from Canada a while back who has cancer and my friends and I are working on a scrapbook for her daughter.
My California friend Jill signed up to make the most pages (she’s a bit crazy) and she’s been cranking them out. She showed some on her blog here so go have a look see. I can’t wait to get this album done and be able to see all of our pages all together in one spot. It’s gonna be fabulous.

Handmade owl card.
Got into a card swap recently and the theme was “bling” so I traced a chipboard owl onto cardstock and then smothered it with Stickles to make her sparkly, used Stickles again to make her a “necklace”, gave her jewels for eyes, and thought I was done. Then Summer came in and said, “Mom, she has no beak!” so I added the beak. Oops. Ya think she’s cute?

Last night I was lying in bed next to my daughter so she would go to sleep faster. Totally did not work. She was too busy talking to me! And by now it’s 10 p.m. and I’m totally losing my patience and I’m frustrated and I say, “Summer, I’m really losing my patience here. You’re not even trying to fall asleep. I’m gonna have to ground you soon.” And I don’t even think she was listening because right about that time she wraps her arm around my stomach and hugs me and says, “Momma, you’re a great mom.” Then she was right back to talking about whatever. I was floored. I don’t know about the rest of the mothers out there, but for me, as a mother, it was a BIG DEAL. I tried to interrupt her and tell her how meaningful it was to me that she would say that and how happy that made me that she would tell me that and feel that way and she just said, “Yeah, I know.” And then went right back to whatever she was talking about. Funny, because she couldn’t possibly know at 8 years old. Me? I just wanted to say, “Oh, go to bed whatever time you want from now on!” ha ha !

My daughter Summer and I were talking last night about how I have to work today, even though it’s Labor Day. I’m a medical transcriptionist, and hospitals don’t close today so here I am. Anyway, Summer was appalled that I didn’t have the day off.
“But mom, it’s Labor Day.”
“My company doesn’t care.”
“But it’s a holiday!”
“My company doesn’t care.”
“Okay, that’s it. I am going to have a talk with somebody there………as soon as I grow a couple of inches……..”
