Father’s Day accordian scrapbook in a box.

June 30th, 2008

I showed a sneak peak of this right before Father’s Day, but I couldn’t show the whole project or any of the photos inside the album cause my dad reads my blog!  (Hi Pops)  I must say, from his reaction I think he rather liked my little Father’s Day scrapbook.  It’s a little Petaloo accordian scrapbook that came in a little box for gift giving, but I altered the outside of the box also to be the album cover and used adhesive to attach the book inside so it unfolds out of the box when you open it.  Here’s what it looks like lying flat on my counter.

Here are a few views of the pages closer up while lying flat.

and the last bit unfolding out of the book.

Here are closer views of the individual pages.  These were so hard to do because they’re only 4 x 4 inches.  So really your photo takes up the whole space and there’s not much room for a lot of “scrap crap.”  I tried to keep it as simple as I could so the focus would stay on the photos.

Ballet Photo Shoot.

June 27th, 2008

copy-of-ballet3.jpg

The other day I showed you photos from my amateur photo shoot in the front yard with my daughter in her tap dance costume.  Here are some of my favorites from the ballet shoot we did after her recital in May, also in the front yard.  Someday I’m gonna buy backdrops!  Anyway, this was so much fun because I just let Summer do whatever she wanted and I took photos when I felt like it.

And this last one?  Ah, this one takes my breath away.  This one is going on my wall.  My God, I love this girl.

Dance photo shoot.

June 26th, 2008

My daughter missed her professional studio dance photos this year due to illness, and I’m a scrapbooker so I can’t let the year be done with no photos, are you kidding me?  So about 3 weeks after the recital at the end of the dance year, Summer got her costume on and went out into the front yard with me for a photo shoot.  These are my absolute favorites.  (I am so in love with my macro lens!)

I showed a ballet photo a while back, but it was from my digital camera and I also took some photos with the regular film camera that came back and I’m loving those also.  I’ll share those another day.

Father accordian scrapbook.

June 19th, 2008

copy-of-you-rock-dad-book-front.jpg

Summer and I made this for her daddy for Father’s Day this year.  I let her pick out all the photos, and she also chose what the cover would say.  I’ve never heard her SAY this phrase, so I’m not sure why she wanted it on the front of the book!  haha  She wanted me to draw guitars and drums on the front for a “rock” theme, but I’m not artist and I said no way so she settled for drawing her own dance floor under her and Daddy.  Daddy loved it.

This is an accordian book with only 6 photos and the photos took up most of the space, so I had to really work at adding things on top of the pictures like rubons and tiny Prima flowers and I really like how it turned out.

There were 2 horizontal photos that Summer picked to go in the book, so I put those at the end so that when someone is looking at it they only have to turn the book one time to see those last 2 pages instead of going back and forth.

Here’s what the book looks like opened up like an accordian.  Ken’s going to display it on his desk.

This is the type of book that I will selling in my etsy store for around $20 at www.summerrosescrapbooks.etsy.com.  I enjoy making little mini books of memories like this one and they’re more affordable for people.  This can be done in any theme such as baby or wedding or school, etc.  Lots of possibilites.

Using old supplies again.

June 17th, 2008

Today I applied for a position as a design team member for a new blog at www.useyourstash.blogspot.com.  It sounds really cool and even if I don’t get picked I’m still gonna totally participate with the challenges they do.  It’s about using your stash of what you already have instead of going out and buying new stuff.  And since right now I can’t afford to buy new stuff, it will be a great way to still enjoy my hobby without spending money.

Here’s a recent layout I did using some really OLD stuff I had in my stash.  The diecuts are My Minds Eye.  One is the title “I Love Swimming” and the other is that diving board/water at the bottom.  It’s called something, but I’ve had it so long now I literally can’t remember the name of it.  They flip over and are double-sided with a different design on the other side.  Anyway, I’ve also had the “Swim Star” ribbon for the last 4 years waiting to use it with these photos.  I even used old cardstock and patterned paper because they’ve been in a page protector as a kit in a drawer for several years now!

I actually started this and had things glued down probably 2 years ago and it’s been in a file ever since.  With organizing my photos better recently I found the partial layout and decided it needed finished.  Had already glued down those diecuts and didn’t really like them anymore, so I decided to bling them up with Stickles and then “Stickled” around 2 of the photos and on the ribbon and fish card and now I like it better.  I’m not in LOVE with it, but I’m calling it done!

I also used an old card from (I think) a kid’s “Go Fish” game.  That kind of thing is totally inspired by Abby Key cause I swear that girl is always throwing something on a page I wouldn’t think to use on my own.  She’s so cool that way!  When I showed Summer the layout, she actually recognized the card and said, “Hey, that’s MY card.”  Not anymore, honey.  Not anymore!

In the photo of the diecut only, can you see the stickles better?  That’s what I was trying to show.

Happy Father’s Day Pops!

June 15th, 2008

Dude…….You are the bestest friend a daughter could ask for.  I am so thankful and happy that we have the kind of wonderful relationship that we have.  I feel that we can tell each other anything.  When something good or something bad happens, you are the first person I want to tell.  When I need advice, you know you are the person I want to talk to.  Thank you for that.  I have lots of friends who don’t have the relationship with their own father the way that I do with you, and that is so sad.  It also makes me remember how lucky I am when you drive me crazy or totally piss me off with your stupid smoking.  By the way, PLEASE stop doing that.  You’re the only dad I’ve got, and I’d like you to be around forever cause I don’t know what I’d do without you.

I love you, Pops.  With all my heart.

Another “Summerism.”

June 13th, 2008

A conversation heard at my house the other day……………………

Summer:  “Mommy, will you take me and Tayler swimming at Tim’s house?”   (Tim is Ken’s son)

Mommy:  No, honey.  Mommy’s working.  Maybe daddy will take you when he gets home from work. But I must warn you, he will probably tell you no so be prepared.”

Summer:  “Nah, I’ll just use my sad puppy dog face.  He falls for it every time.”

Does it get funnier than that?  And she was RIGHT, it worked!  Lord help us when this kid becomes a teenager.

And because I can’t stand to write something without putting a photo on here too, here’s an oldie from 5 years ago when she was 3 years old.  I’m working on a layout for this right now.  I love this photo because when you would say to Summer, “SMILE”, this is what you’d get!  God, I love this kid.

Pazzles Inspiration machine.

June 12th, 2008

I’ve been so inspired by my friends Klo and Jill and Edie and what they can create with their Pazzles machines that I knew I had to own one someday.  Since I have a resale license for my store, I opened up a retail account with Pazzles so I could sell the machines to other people, and I sold my first machine.  Woo hoo!  My friend Thea bought it from me and I’m so excited for her cause I can drive a few hours to her house and play on the Pazzles with her!

My friend Klo is a member of Pazzles design team and has a blog where she gives tutorials about the different fun stuff you can do and make with the Pazzles.  She has also created a CD of cutting files that you can buy.  She offers some for free in her store and also some  for sale.  (If you have a Pazzles or are thinking about it, go check it out.  She has some great stuff on there.)  I wrote previously about how Jill made me a cool Cupcake title at the St. Louis convention and showed on my blog another time a couple of neat layouts Klo had made with her Pazzles.  I think my favorite thing so far was the iron-on for a T-shirt that Klo made me with my business logo.  LOVE IT.

If you’d like to place an order with me for a Pazzles, you can do a custom request at my etsy store at www.summerrosescrapbooks.etsy.com.  My ebay store has other scrapbooking supplies at http://stores.ebay.com/Summer-Rose-Scrapbooks

NEAT receipts.

June 9th, 2008

I subscribe to lots of blogs to try to learn more about running my business and blog.  One of my favorites is www.Sparkplugging.com (used to be eMoms at home).  It’s run by Wiendy Piersall, and she has so many different writers with blogs on her site that are so funny and informational that I’m a subscriber to probably 95% of them.  Anyway, last month she was having a contest and I won!  Woo hoo, cause I never win anything!  And I love to be organized (not saying I AM…..) so this is a great win for me.  Go check it out.  http://www.neatreceipts.com/.  I can’t wait to receive it in the mail and get started using it.

Does anyone reading this have one of these?  Would love to hear what you think of it.  Do you like it?  Does it make things easier for you?

Project sneak peeks.

June 8th, 2008

Here’s a sneak peek of a couple things I worked on this weekend.  The first one is a mini scrapbook in a box.  It’s from Petaloo (I think) and I covered the front with patterned paper, stamped the people stamps, and used some Mod Podge-ish stuff to seal it.  When you open the box, inside is a mini accordian album that unfolds.  It’s so CUTE if I do say so myself!

Here’s a side view.  I love to tie stuff to the spines of my albums.  It’s just one of my things.

Here’s some more little birdies that my daughter made the template for and I’m putting on bird-day cards.  Get it?  I know, it’s corny, right?  But I’m hoping they’re cute too since the cards are for a swap with 9 other ladies!

blue-birds-from-summer-rose-scrapbooks.jpg

You may not be able to tell, but they are actually covered with baby blue Stickles so they’re just a teeny bit sparkly.  I also showed some birthday party invites that I made with these in a previous post here.  My daughter wants me to put her birds up for sale in my etsy shop so other scrapbookers can use them in their scrapbooks and cards also, so I’m thinking about that.
