Update on www.frugalities.com

September 30th, 2007

Okay, people.  I bit the bullet and took a chance on this company and ordered from their website.  I mentioned earlier that I was leery because I’d never heard of them before, but with this huge discount they were offering that day I couldn’t resist.  Boy, am I glad I didn’t!  I ordered Sept 6, it shipped Sept 17, and I got my order on Sept 20.  Everything is packaged so beautifully, and individually.  Which I think is really a lot of extra work they’re putting on themselves that’s not necessary, but that’s just my opinion.

I ordered 5 different types of mini books including a tag book and teeny weeny book from 7Gypsies.  LOVE these.  I’ve never used them before and I can’t wait to get busy.  I’m thinking of participating in an arts/crafts sale in November and thought I’d offer lots of little mini books in different themes for sale.

I’ll show you photos of what I ordered later.  Keep in mind, they warn you that it takes a while to get your package ready and shipped out, so you can’t be in a big hurry to get your stuff or you’ll be unhappy.  Overall, I will for sure order from this company again.  :)

How to get caught up in scrapbooking your photos

September 20th, 2007

Here’s my somewhat unsolicited advice.  Forget it.  It ain’t gonna happen.  At least not for the average scrapbooker like me (at least I THINK average) who takes boatloads of photos every week.  I’m literally not going to live long enough to get all these thousands upon thousands of photos into scrapbooks, even if I pare them down and only use the very best ones.  So I don’t try to catch up anymore.  What you have to do is LET IT GO.  I know, easier said than done.  But it’s what I have done and I am so much happier.  I’m a happier scrapper.  I don’t feel pressured anymore.  I still have my photos that I want to scrapbook pulled out and sorted into months, but now instead of going along chronologically I sift through my photos and see which ones “speak” to me.  Then I scrapbook those, no matter which month’s envelope they’re in.  No pressure.  Just putting my memories down on paper.

Something else I do is NOT scrap every single photo.  Just pick out the best ones.  Especially for events such as birthday parties.  Do you really need to scrapbook EVERY photo of the opening of EVERY gift from the party?  Twenty years from now is your kid going to care about each and every gift they received that day?  I don’t think my kid will, so I stopped scrapbooking every photo like that.  I also don’t need to scrapbook the 4 photos of the cake that my insane husband took.  They all look the same, honey!   :)   I pick out the best photos.  The ones I love or the ones my little girl loves.  The ones where she’s with special people or best friends.  Then the others go in a box labeled by year and month.

At first it was hard to change my way of scrapbooking like this.  But I have found that it is so freeing that the longer I do it, the easier it gets.  I think it’s probably because it makes me happier.  And it’s always easier to do things that make us happy, right?  Speaking of making me happy, I think I’ll go scrapbook right now!   :)

Monkey Accordian Album Scrapbook

Here’s a little project I made for a friend (Hi Jamie!).  She’s nuts for monkeys, so that was why I chose that theme.  It’s a double-sided accordian book from 7Gypsies.  I love it.  It came as a beige color and I covered it with patterned paper.  The front and back cover are very nice heavy chipboard and they came separated from the book so that I could cover them also and then I glued the covers to the pages.  I’m definitely going to buy more of these.  If you want really specific info on how to make one, leave me a comment.

Scrapbook the little things

September 11th, 2007

I love the idea of putting the little things and the little moments in my scrapbooks.  These are things that my brain will never have retained 20 years from now.  What am I saying?  I won’t remember them 5 years from now.  For instance, my daughter has a birth mark on her body somewhere and I’m always thinking I’ll scrapbook that some day.  Another thing is her freckles.  If you have freckles, do you have them forever?  I have no idea, so I took photos of her freckles in case they went away when she was older or something.  It’s so interesting to me because I’ve never seen anyone with freckles on their eyelids before.  I guess I don’t look at other people’s faces as closely as I do my own kid’s, ya know?

Having said that, here’s the layout I did about her freckles.  In case you can’t read the journaling, here it is:

In the last few years freckles have started popping up on your pretty face. I love how you even have two on your eyelid and a few on your chin. You hate them & asked me to cover them up with my makeup for your 2nd grade school photo. I don’t remember having any as a kid, so I don’t know if freckles stay with you forever or eventually fade away, so I took this picture to remind me of your sweet face just in case it changes someday. I love your freckles.

Your opinion wanted!

September 6th, 2007

I have come across a very cool-looking website to buy scrapbooking supplies, but am wondering if any of you have ordered from them?  I do all my shopping online anyway, but I would like to get an opinion as to whether it’s a legitimate company and how their service is.  They have FANTASTIC prices on days when the discount is big.  The sale discount changes every day.  Today it’s 44%, so I really want to place an order but am hesitant.  Please leave a comment if you know anything about this company.
